EF’s Pre-PhD Program prepares you to excel in doctoral studies at top universities worldwide. This intensive 2-term program (approx. 6 months) equips you with the linguistic, academic, and research skills needed to develop a compelling PhD proposal and thrive in a competitive academic environment.

Graduates of the EF Pre-PhD Program are guaranteed admission to one of our 230+ partner universities in the UK, US, Australia, Germany, and France. In addition to our partner university options, we can assist you in applying to nearly any PhD program in your preferred country of study. With step-by-step guidance from a dedicated Pre-PhD tutor, you’ll ensure your proposal meets the highest academic standards while building confidence in your research abilities.

A Tailored Program

The EF Pre-PhD Program is specifically designed for future doctoral students and provides a highly personalized approach to ensure your success. Over 2 terms, you’ll focus on advanced language skills, research methods, and academic writing. Elective courses and workshops allow you to tailor your studies to your specific field, and quantitative and qualitative research training will deepen your understanding of critical research techniques.

Specialist Staff Support

A University Pathway Advisor will provide personalized guidance throughout the program, helping you research, select, and apply to PhD programs. This dedicated specialist will ensure you are fully supported every step, offering expert advice to help you reach your academic goals.

English and Exam Training

To meet the language proficiency requirements of international universities, the program includes structured training for exams such as IELTS, TOEFL, and GRE. You’ll also develop advanced academic English skills tailored to the demands of PhD-level research, ensuring you are prepared to excel in any doctoral program.

English requirement:

2-term program: IELTS 5.5 (no component less that 5.0), TOEFL 550 PBT/213 CBT/81 IBT, EF SET 50 or the equivalent on the free EF UPiBT test.
